September sneaked in early this year.
She put her cool hand on the face of July,
bathed it in veiled sunlight,
dressed it in misty mornings,
zapped it with nippy nights,
decked it with early autumn asters,
puffed it up with Autumn clouds,
gilded it with burnished leaves,
chilled our summer souls with too-cool rains,
and painted shadows on the green of our minds
that told us winter lies ahead.
It may be cold and early.
